About Us
YardsToTonsCalculator.com started from a simple, repeat problem: someone would ask, “How many tons is 3 cubic yards of gravel?” — and the answers were always inconsistent. One spreadsheet used one density, the supplier ticket showed another, and the estimate kept changing.
We built this tool to make the conversion clear: pick a material (or enter a custom density), type your volume, and get a practical estimate you can sanity-check before you order, haul, or budget. No sign-ups. No complicated dashboards. Just a fast converter that works on phones at the jobsite.
What the calculator helps with
- Estimating tons from cubic yards for common materials (aggregate, base rock, sand, soil, mulch, etc.)
- Comparing results using presets vs. custom density
- Reducing “oops” moments: over-ordering, under-ordering, or misjudging hauling capacity
What we care about
- Practical accuracy. We keep presets realistic and clearly explain that density varies with moisture, compaction, and source.
- Privacy by default. You should be able to calculate without an account. We keep data collection minimal.
- Speed & clarity. Clean UI, fast load times, and the important numbers visible immediately.
- Accessibility. Keyboard-friendly inputs, readable typography, and sensible focus states.
Where this is going
- More material presets with notes (wet vs dry, compacted vs loose)
- Metric support expansions (m³ ↔ tonnes) and better unit toggles
- Truckload/haul estimator (based on typical capacities)
- Printable/exportable results for quotes and planning
- Even tighter mobile ergonomics for field use
